SAN FRANCISCO, CA (April 14, 2010) – Golden Gate Capital, a San Francisco-based private equity firm, announced today the acquisitions of Clover Technologies Group and West Point Products. These acquisitions advance Golden Gate’s strategy to develop an aftermarket imaging supplies portfolio. By starting their portfolio with the acquisition of two industry leaders, it paves the way for Golden Gate to develop a comprehensive, multi-channel platform positioned for rapid growth. Clover Technologies Group is the global leader in providing vertically integrated, closed-loop environmental solutions, including the recycling and remanufacturing of imaging supplies.

Founded in 1996 and with annual revenue of more than $450 million, Clover specializes in selling through the wholesale, distribution, national office products and retail channels. Jim Cerkleski, CEO of Clover Holdings, commented on the acquisition, “We are excited about partnering with Golden Gate because it opens up new opportunities for global expansion both organically and through acquisitions. We will continue to expand our collections programs and remanufacturing infrastructure as we diversify into new and emerging markets while driving our ‘recapture, remanufacture, remarket’ strategy. This will also allow us to accelerate the organic growth and acquisition strategy of Image1 to be the number one parts provider globally.”

West Point Products is the leading imaging supplies remanufacturer servicing the mid-market, focused on supporting dealers targeting the SMB market. Founded in 1972 and with annual revenue of more than $65 million, West Point Products provides best-in-class managed print services (Axess MPS) to complement their product and services portfolio. Tom Day, CEO of West Point Products, said: “This acquisition enables us to continue to grow organically and seek out new acquisition opportunities. This partnership will help us enhance our product and services offering to further penetrate the mid-market.”

Both companies will continue to operate independently in their respective markets but will work together to leverage potential synergies in the future. This partnership will provide greater coverage and focus on each market to ensure the best and highest quality product and support while maximizing distribution capabilities for greater product availability. The focus will remain on providing best-in-class support to customers while ensuring the highest levels of service in the industry. Existing management of both organizations will remain in place to support these new growth strategies and senior management of each company will remain large shareholders.

Jake Mizrahi, Golden Gate Managing Director, said, “We enthusiastically welcome Clover and West Point as a part of the broader Golden Gate portfolio and look forward to working with both organizations to continue to help accelerate their growth strategies. These strong platforms position us perfectly to pursue additional opportunities in the imaging supplies and environmental space both in the United States and abroad.”

Canon’s imagePROGRAF iPF6300/6350/8300 large format printers feature a new ink set, LUCIA EX, which enables photographers to precisely achieve desired results by producing more expressive, crisp blacks, smooth color gradations and the capability to reproduce the finest details in the shadow areas of photographs. The new inks are also designed with an innovative polymer structure that results in greater scratch resistance and protection from color fading, while also reducing bronzing and metamerism for durable, stable output.

“At InteliCoat, we do everything possible to ensure our customers obtain optimized results from our products, which is why we place such importance on our extensive library of ICC profiles,” said Jonathan Read, Technical Sales & Applications Manager at InteliCoat Technologies. “By optimizing Magic, Magiclée and Museo brand products for the latest generation of Canon printers, our customers will be able to produce consistent, accurate, high-quality color images every time.

It is now even easier to obtain excellent results on these machines, due to Canon’s new Media Configuration Tool, which allows our customers to import our custom media files directly into the printer. This feature is a great way to streamline and simplify the printing process for novice printer operators, to the most knowledgeable experts.”

Prestigious Industry Awards Given to EFI’s Wide Format Printing, Industrial Inkjet and RIP Solutions for Innovation and New Technologies

FOSTER CITY, CA — April 8, 2010 – EFI™ (Nasdaq: EFII), a world leader in customer-focused digital printing innovation, today announced that it has won three European Digital Press (EDP) Association Awards for 2010; ‘Best Wide Format Printer up to 3.5 Meters’ for the VUTEk® GS3200, ‘Best Industrial (Specialty) Printing Solution’ for the Jetrion® 4830, and ‘Best RIP Solution for Wide Format’ for Fiery® XF. This intensive evaluation is performed by a committee of independent consultants, editors, engineers and other related professionals, and is based on innovation and the value of the new technologies these products bring to the European market. This includes improving speed, quality, usability and functionality, or reducing environmental impact as well as cost to the user.

“Dedication to our customer’s success is our main priority. EFI has now won seven EDP awards since 2007, which is a testament to both our focus on innovation and continued commitment to our partners,” said EFI CEO, Guy Gecht. “EFI invests heavily in research and development and regularly seeks feedback from our users so that we can offer the products and solutions that will drive their businesses. We are extremely proud of this recognition from the European Digital Press Association; it is great motivation to continue to be leaders in digital printing innovation.”

The combination of superior photorealistic quality and high production speeds without compromises allows business to increase revenues by expanding into new, higher-margin applications.
EFI’s Jetrion 4830 – ‘Best Industrial (Specialty) Printing Solution of the Year 2010′

Fairfax, Virginia — Specialty imagers from around the country recently met for the annual 2010 National Environmental Health and Safety (NEHS) Conference (Indianapolis, March 15–17) to discuss sustainability and other issues affecting the graphic communications industry.

“The NEHS conference provides printers of all platforms the opportunity to network with their peers, take home new ideas to implement, and receive up to the minute information on safety, environmental and human resource issues that directly impact all operations,” said Marci Kinter, SGIA Vice President, Government & Business Information.

Denise Coogan, Manager, Safety and Environmental Compliance at Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc., opened the conference with the keynote presentation “Extreme Recycling at Subaru.” The plant set a “green” standard in 2004 when it became the first “zero landfill” auto factory in the US. Attendees learned about the operational decisions, culture and benefits that have accrued from Subaru’s persistent focus on environmental stewardship.

The Sustainable Green Printing (SGP) Partnership certification program was another key topic of discussion. The SGP Printer Panel discussed activities involved in becoming certified as well as how they have benefited from achieving SGP status. Attendees also participated in pre-conference workshops, learned the latest health and safety practices, and developed action plans to employ sustainability programs and projects in their facilities.

“We are just starting to implement our sustainability program,” said NEHS attendee Mark St. Louis of Holland & Crosby (Mississauga, Ontario). “The conference provided me with a great opportunity to network with other facilities looking to implement similar programs.”

Competitive Speeds Create a Cost-Effective Imaging Device

West Caldwell, NJ, March 8, 2010 – Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment, today announced the introduction of the new Aficio® MP C6501SP/C7501SP digital imaging system. Both color multifunction products (MFPs) replace the Aficio MP C6000 and MP C7500. The new MP C6501SP/C7501SP system is engineered to minimize total cost of ownership with enhanced speed, productivity, paper handling and finishing, and energy saving features. The system provides an ideal solution for fast-paced offices and high-volume environments.

The Aficio MP C6501SP/C7501SP system helps users stay productive by reducing turnaround time with fast output. The MP C6501SP boasts speeds of 60 pages-per-minute (ppm) color and 65 ppm black and white, while the MP C7501SP delivers 70 ppm color and 75 ppm black and white. Output is further accelerated by a 150-sheet automatic document feeder with one-pass color duplex scanning, allowing users to scan both sides of a document in a single pass, reducing scan time and wear and tear on sensitive originals. Personal productivity is also enhanced with Ricoh’s new widget-based technology, App2Me®. Scheduled to launch in the first quarter of this year, App2Me allows users to create customized workflows and utilize them at any Ricoh MFP enabled with the App2Me workflow management solution.

As today’s businesses demand high-quality results, the Aficio MP C6501SP/C7501SP system offers a wide range of professional-grade paper finishing and handling features that allow users to experiment with new formats and improve uptime. Standard paper capacity is 3,400 sheets with a maximum capacity of 7,400 sheets. Also available are seven optional finishers specific to a variety of functions, such as six-position multi-fold, staple and hole punch, ring bind and booklet-making. Paper handling has been improved as the system accepts up to 140 lb. Index and 110 lb. Cover. To further enhance document processing and printing, the optional Fiery E-7200 will be available after launch allowing for easier Ricoh scanning and Fiery printing.

“For many businesses, in-house printing needs are becoming more complex,” said Hede Nonaka, executive vice president, Marketing & Document Solutions and Services Division, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “With the Ricoh Aficio MP C6501SP/C7501SP digital imaging system, instead of outsourcing these jobs to a third-party printer, users can consolidate costs into one resourceful and reliable MFP that is capable of meeting their unique print and color-imaging demands.”

While the Aficio MP C6501SP/C7501SP system delivers on quality and productivity, it also helps businesses cut down on energy and meet their overall sustainability goals. The MP C6501SP and MP C7501SP exhibit warm-up times of 70 and 60 seconds respectively, all while using 12 percent less energy than previous models. Additionally, the system is designed to use Ricoh’s revolutionary PxP toner. With its lower melting point, PxP toner requires less energy, but still delivers professional-level results.

With the Aficio MP C6501SP/C7501SP system, confidentiality and security remain of the utmost importance. The system incorporates many of Ricoh’s standard safeguarding features, including the ability to limit system access to authorized users only and document encryption.

For more information on the Ricoh Aficio MP C6501SP/C7501SP and Ricoh’s full line of products and solutions, please visit www.ricoh-usa.com.

FUJIFILM Dimatix’ SpectraT brand printheads are featured in 34 printers – including 22 powered by new Polaris series printheads. The expanded Polaris printhead family introduced is capable of drop sizes ranging from 15 to 200 picoliters and was shown integrated into an impressive array of printer models, sizes and applications.

Dongguan, China; March 17, 2010 – Citing a surge in market demand for its Spectra brand printheads that began in 2008 and more recent design mandates for its new, high-performance Polaris Q-Class units, FUJIFILM Dimatix is calling the China Sign Expo 2010 a resounding success and a sign of greater things tocome.

More than 40,000 sign industry professionals from all over the world attended the China Sign Expo held in the International Exhibition Center here from March 2nd through 6th, 2010. Nine of the leading Chinese printer manufacturers and dealers showed 34 wide-format printers based on FUJIFILM Dimatix Spectra brand printheads in the 30,000 sq-m show floor. Of those, 22 were powered by new Polaris PQ-512 series Q-Class printheads.

“For FUJIFILM Dimatix, for the OEM manufacturers who design and build the printers and for the dealers who sell them, China Sign Expo 2010 was an outstanding show!” said Howard Baldwin, Vice President of Sales.

“In the 3.2-meter category our high-performance, ultra-slim Polaris PQ-512/15 and new PQ-512/35 printheads dominated by every meaningful measure the wide-format product offerings on the show floor, while the new Polaris PQ-512/85 printhead helped to break the performance barrier on a 5-meter grand-format printer using only two printheads per color to produce 200 sq-m/hour in two-pass mode” Baldwin exclaimed.

The shared physical features and identical interfaces common to all Polaris models allow the printhead to be easily used across many different printer models and applications. Everything from a 15 picoliter close-up viewed point-of-purchase or 85 picoliter long-distance viewed graphics to a 200 picoliter coating on differing media with different ink types are covered by an extensive range of drop sizes and compatible ink types.

Commenting on the versatile Spectra Polaris series, Jiang Hong, CEO of Runtianzhi Floraremarked, “I have been waiting for this type of printhead for many years. The new Spectra Polaris family of heads from Dimatix is taking inkjet to a new level in performance with the highest speed and quality in the market today. The additional water capability, along with traditional solvents and UV-curing inks, can serve a wide variety of applications.”

Other leading manufacturers and dealers also featured FUJIFILM Dimatix printhead designs.

§

Wit-Color Digital Science & Technology Co. presented seven Polaris-based printers, including two it debuted as part of its new 3.2-m 4-head Smart Polaris series, which is capable of imaging media at resolutions up to 720 x 600 dpi and at rates up to 85 sq-m/hr.

§

Zhejiang Gongzheng Technology Development Co., Ltd. showed six Spectra-based 3.2-m devices, including five utilizing from two to six Polaris PQ-512 series heads that were capable of imaging up to 600 x 800 dpi at rates from 23- to 46 sq-m/hr.

§

Teckwin International debut its new TS3000 flatbed featuring 12 Polaris PQ-512/15 printheads, and also showed its UV3200 design with eight Polaris PQ-512/15 heads.

§

Anhui Liyu Computer Equipment Manufacturing Co., Ltd. displayed its PS3208 wide-format featuring eight Polaris PQ-512/15 heads.

§

Honghua Digital Technology Stock Co. Ltd featured six Spectra-based printers, including three machines powered by the Polaris PQ-512/15 and the new PQ-512/35 and PQ-512/85 printheads.

§

Major printer dealers Yong Xiang and Beijin Technology Development Co. showed Agfa GandiJet and DGI Polarjet, and Honghua Nano printers powered by FUJIFILM Dimatix Spectra brand S-Class and Nova, and Skywalker printheads, respectively.

Spectra Polaris PQ-512 printheads utilize the binary operating capability of Dimatix’ VersaDropTMjetting technology and Q-Class hybrid construction to deliver ink drop sizes from 15 to 200 picoliters from 512 individually addressable nozzles at frequencies up to 45 kHz fired at 8 meters/second velocity with exceptional straightness.

Polaris series printheads are compatible with a broad range of inks, including UV-curable inks and aggressive organic solvents, making them suitable for a variety of commercial and industrial printing applications such as wide-format, label and package printing, at resolutions to 1000 dpi. An integral mounting bezel designed with precision registration points enables drop-in alignment – a unique feature that allows each 256-channel jet module to be exchanged and accurately registered in the field without the need for special tools or recalibration.

Lier, Belgium, March 9th, 2010 – Xeikon, a division of Punch Graphix and pioneer of the first digital color presses, is proud to announce the introduction of QA, its next generation Quadrupled Adapted toners. The toners come in two types: the Industrial version (QA-I), and the Productivity version (QA-P). Built on Xeikon’s proven Form Adapted (FA) technology, the QA-toner raises the bar of digital color print toners to new heights. In 2006, Xeikon achieved a breakthrough in toner development when it pioneered the use of shape-modified polyester toner, which set the standard for image quality and eco-friendliness.

QA-I for Industrial printing
QA-I toner has been developed specifically for the packaging and labelling market, and boasts major advances in image quality, light fastness, food safety and ecological benefits. QA-I toner is a dedicated toner for Xeikon’s 3000 family. This family of presses, of which the first member was introduced at drupa 2008, are aimed at the label and packaging market.

Almost 40% of the digitally printed labels are today used for food applications. Safety and food approval is therefore a very important requirement. Dry toner is the only digital print technology that can offer a food-approved ink system in comparison to UV-inkjet and liquid toner in terms of set-off, food contact with dry food and functional barriers like paper or PET-foil. To achieve this, R&D had to carefully select some new colour pigments. These new pigments also offer an additional increase in light fastness, achieving a level not seen before, which is another important demand from this market. This new toner, together with a new development technology, will become available for the installed base in the course of 2010

“This is a logical step, and stems from the segmented approach of our machines introduced at drupa 2008,” says Lode Deprez, VP Consumables & Process Group at Punch Graphix International. “We’ve decided to offer dedicated toners – because each application has its unique requirements, we focus on developing the most appropriate toner for that specific application.

“The packaging and labelling market, for example, demands a larger colour gamut, better fast lightness and higher food safety than the document printing market. With the QA-toner, customers working in the packaging and labelling market get a toner that’s tuned for their specific needs. The choice of the pigments and the way the toner has been designed also improves the lifetime of the fuser drums.”

QA-P toner for document printing
In addition to the QA-I toner, Xeikon is also launching the QA-Productivity (QA-P) toner, which is ideal for the document printing and book printing markets. It offers benefits in the field of fusing, increased colour gamut and speed. These are important performances for these markets. Compared to the Product Adapted PA-toner, the resin and the carrier system have been changed and there is full implementation of the proven shape-modification technology, resulting in more print latitude and operator comfort.

Committed to the environment
Dry toner digital printing is well known for its eco-friendliness compared to traditional offset technologies eg no VOC emission, less energy and less waste. Xeikon is committed to a greener future, and ecology plays a key role in the design of the end-to-end printing process: from toner production and packaging, through to actual printing and paper recycling.

In line with this philosophy, the QA-toner features a new polyester resin system with EF catalyst, which includes no organic tin and also comes with an EF carrier system. And it is packaged in larger 1200g toner bottles, which results in nearly 50 % less waste customer side. The dry toner technology used in the QA-toner is 100% compatible with the increasing demand for global reductions of VOC emissions, and existing deinking and recycling installations, and will of course be produced using 100% green electricity.

The new toner will be available in Spotcolors (QA SPOT) for the 3000 and 8000 series engines.
The QA toners are expected to be commercially available from July 2010, and will be launched officially at IPEX 2010, which is being staged at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, UK, from 18-25 May 2010. You can experience the QA-toners at the Xeikon booth in Hall 11 # C230.

Los Angeles, CA – Future Graphics Imaging Corporation, the world’s leading distributor of high-quality Comprehensive System Solutions for remanufacturers, announces the release of a superior matched system for the HP P3015 remanufactured cartridge.

Released in the fall of 2009, the 42 ppm P3015 replaced the P3005 series while utilizing the same basic engine technology. Aspects of the cartridge architecture, however, are slightly different. For example, the OPC for the P3015 has a similar drive gear element to the P2055, but the two are not interchangeable.

Only six months after the OEM release, FGIC is offering a specially designed MK Imaging toner that shows exceptional ID, lower backgrounding and better toner consumption lower than the OEM.

The new MK Imaging toner for P3015 remanufactured cartridges is available for both the standard (CE255A) and high yield (CE255X) cartridges.

FGIC has also developed a lightweight, easy to use tool (patent pending) that quickly removes the OEM drum drive element and easily reinstalls it onto the MK Imaging drum while preventing damage.

The MK Imaging toner, OPC, compatible wiper blade and drum drive gear tool are in stock now and ship from convenient locations around the globe.

To see test data, contact your FGIC sales rep or download a detailed “Engine Overview” on fgimaging.com. Remanufacturing instructions for the P3015 are also available for free download.

TEWKSBURY, MA — February 23, 2010 — ECRM today announced the launch of WorkMates™ 4.0, an entry-level workflow solution that greatly enhances the production capabilities of prepress operators. With WorkMates 4.0, users are provided more automated features that control job priorities, file archiving and deletion choices, and defined workflow mapping for files, and greater access to job history information. ECRM will be exhibiting WorkMates 4.0 at the Graphics of the Americas 2010 exhibit in booth #882 (Feb 25-27) in Miami Beach. For more information about ECRM, go to www.ecrm.com.

ECRM Quote

“WorkMates is specifically engineered to help small to mid-sized commercial printers to simplify and automate standard production tasks,” notes ECRM Director of Product Management John Marzec. “There isn’t a more affordable workflow solution to address these basic prepress needs. What customers like is that WorkMates is scalable. If a printer decides that they want stochastic screening or color critical ICC matched proofs, all they need to do is add a plug-in module. WorkMates simplifies digital prepress workflow issues and increases efficiency through significantly reduced prepress, make-ready and production times.”

Workflow Management Features

WorkMates 4.0 offers several new workflow management features, including:

Copy Sourcing: The new “Copy Source” feature enables users to copy files automatically to other folders in the workflow, as soon as they arrive into a designated hot folder, enabling a more robust and complex workflow;

Copy Source: The new “Copy Source” feature enables users to copy files automatically to other folders in the workflow, when they reach the ‘Done’ state in the current hot folder, enabling a more robust and complex workflow;

Copy Destination: This enhancement allows RIPed output files (PDF or Tiff) to be copied to other folders in the workflow. For example, the TIFF output file sent to proof is the exact same TIFF file that is sent to plate, leveraging the ROOM feature (Rip Once Output Many) of WorkMates;

The On Hold Feature: This “put-on-hold” feature garners greater control for production managers by preventing jobs from being automatically processed. This is especially appreciated for jobs requiring approval or unique alterations or applications.

Job Archiving: Production files can now be automatically archived directly from a workflow folder of choice, ensuring all files are available for future use.

Job Deletion Policy: Jobs can be deleted based on rules set up by the prepress manager;

Priority Control: Operators can define priority of various workflow folders allowing for greater attention to predetermined projects.

Job Management

New job management features include:

Job Tracking and History Database: Operators have greater access to job elements and details, allowing viewing of a job’s entire history and details throughout the workflow;

Imposition Template Printing: This enables prepress operators to communicate job imposition information to the pressroom by printing imposition templates from any Windows-based desktop printer;

Enhanced CtServer Client Controls: Operators gain greater control of CtServer jobs and Queue/Property for enabling or disabling features;

New Job Management Controls: Operators can set/change priority and deletion policy, archive individual jobs, and redirect PDF or Tiff output files;

Enhancements focusing on streamlining imposition: Including the addition of a Favorites menu pick that simplifies imposition selection for commonly used imposition.

Availability

WorkMates 4.0 is available to order immediately through the ECRM worldwide distribution channels. Additional product information is available online at www.ecrm.com.
